Fighting Right

January 20, 2018 By NealIsley Leave a Comment

I have been wanting to get started writing again for a while. I have so many thoughts that keep coming up in my day to day world.

One of the things that I have struggled with in my past blog post is dealing with and venting anger for the direction the world is going, and really for how the Church has quietly allowed and even sometimes approved of the world’s behavior.

I have come to a place where Jesus has been working on a much deeper level in my life. He has been healing my fears, that He is not in control. Through that healing He has also been able to calm my anger, as anger always comes from fear.

As I am realizing that at the end of each day, even though Jesus may not be pleased by what happened, He is not surprised and could change it at any moment if He so desired.

Today I am hoping to speak to those people who have followed this same path that I have struggled with of fear and anger.

Whether it is believing that the Government, or someone in it, the media, society, or for that matter anyone else has any control over my heart.

See my heart is where my thoughts and my words ultimately originate. It is the place where all the days stuff will end up if I don’t give it away. It is where the volcano of fear and anger will bubble until that person who cuts me off in traffic, or the grocery line, or that person posts something on FB that I don’t agree with. Then I let them have it.

This is the place where every issue comes from. The Bible says that we quarrel because we want our own selfish desires. This is the devil’s playground, and he is playing a lot lately.

I see it in about every movement right now. From #Metoo and immigration, to the political battlefield, it seems to be more about the bashing and fight than about the solution.

I am not interested in getting into the “right or wrong” of each issue. Let it suffice to say that I am for people and finding Jesus in each situation. I think the things we do to each other are horrible. I believe that the devaluing of any human life is evil. I am abhorred at the harassment and abuse that happens today. I believe we need to look at the Pornography issue along with advertising, which uses people as objects for financial gain. It eventually leads to physical harassment and abuse as the cycle grows.

I believe that immigration needs to be fixed not just kicked down the road leaving real people in limbo. There should be a clear path to stay in the country or not. On the other hand when someone comes into the country illegally they are criminals and need to go through the process of citizenship.

The biggest thing that I have learned about all of these issues is, that real people are involved on both sides. It is easy to forget that but Jesus wouldn’t forget that.

I believe He would cut through the rhetoric, and move to the heart issues. People are hurting, both because of what has been done to them and by what they have done to others.

It is easy to forget that, and just divide up sides and fight. The problem is that no one will win.

We will just see more marches with opposing sides yelling at each other. More government shut downs, and more people resisting everything.

At the end of the day, if we don’t begin to look for real solutions, understanding that real people’s lives are involved, and real people are hurting. WE will never move forward. It will not be easy. But if we, The Church, don’t begin to model it, I can assure the world will never be able to understand it.

This is not simple… It will require doing something different. It will require putting down our guards and our fears, and putting out our hearts to our enemies. It will require learning new ways to communicate, while telling Satan “Get behind ME!).

Really it will require modeling Jesus who said again and again, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they are doing.” It will mean praying more than speaking against our enemies. It will mean loving our neighbors after first learning to allow God to love us.

Let’s move from a place of quoting Dr. Martin Luther King and Gandhi, to living what they lived. Let’s fight with love! Because it is the only thing can defeat the fear and hate that the world has to offer.

Want to have a cup of coffee and talk about it. I would love to get to know you better and hear your story. Especially if you are buying…
