What is “Transformational Housing” and what is the difference between it and the traditional “Transitional Housing” that people may have heard of?
The main difference is the goals for the time spent in the house. In Transformational Housing the goal is to give a person a place to live, but also to give them a new start with life in a positive direction.
The best way I can describe it is what has happened to me and many other people who have had a major transformation in their life. I went from a life of hell to becoming one of Heaven’s Ambassadors.
It was not easy and it required learning a new way to live that was very foreign to the way I was living. In my old life it was all about me and others were just here to benefit me or make me happy. In the new life I have chosen, it requires a life of sacrifice of self and selfish desires for the better of others.
The Transformational Housing program will be for men that have been in destructive life patterns and often are coming out of a time of incarceration or may be facing incarceration if they don’t have a major change in their life choices.
The Transformational Housing program will be set up for 4-15 men. It will be somewhat self-governing with the men who are farther along in the program pouring into and mentoring those that are starting out.
The goal is to work in all areas of the person’s life and give them the chance to experience, in a healthy and safe place, how to be in relationships in a positive and God honoring way.
We will be working on emotional, spiritual and daily living skills. These may be anything from budgeting and finances to prayer counseling and healing of past wounds.
Each person has individual needs and was designed individually so we believe the best approach to healing is to respond in the same way. Each person will be set up with an individual plan working within the guidelines of the program rather than a program that is trying to get people to fit into it.
Our hope is to pair this project with the “Crazy Love Coffee” project so that we can offer employment and job opportunities for each person going through the Transformations Housing program.
